Broadview’s senior executives have over 80 years of combined real estate experience and contribute a breadth of capital markets knowledge and investment expertise.

Broadview Executives

Broadview was formed in 2018, and manages four commingled investment vehicles focused on providing growth capital to real estate operators and developers.

Prior to forming Broadview, our team supported the build out and management of the Venture Investments’ platform at Berkshire Residential Investments, a real estate investment management firm with approximately $22B in gross assets under management (as of 3/31/2022), and invested in billions of dollars of gross real estate assets through ventures with and investments in several development and operating companies.

Broadview’s executives have been involved in over $10 billion of real estate investments across numerous sectors, markets and transaction structures.  The company’s professionals have a history of working together to create ventures and grow real estate businesses across a range of property types.  Broadview is committed to serving investors and partners with a high level of integrity, diligence, and respect.

Larry Ellman

Managing Partner

Mr. Ellman is a Managing Partner with primary responsibility for investment sourcing, portfolio management, and investor relations. He has over two decades of experience in real estate investment management across all major U.S. markets and property types. Prior to co-founding Broadview, Mr. Ellman was a Partner at Berkshire Group and head of its Venture Investments business. From 2004 to 2010 he was a Managing Director at Citi Property Investors, where he was responsible for overseeing North American real estate investment and fund management activities. Between 1998 and 2004 Mr. Ellman was a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan Real Estate, where he led a team responsible for $7 billion of diversified investment activity. Earlier, he held positions with the O’Connor Group and Jones Lang Wootton. Mr. Ellman holds a Master of Science in Real Estate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California. He serves on the Boards of Leggat McCall Properties, Clearwater Living, Lodging Capital Partners, and LCB Senior Living. Mr. Ellman is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Pension Real Estate Association.

Jason Grossman

Managing Partner

Mr. Grossman is a Managing Partner with responsibility for investment sourcing and structuring as well as overseeing platform investments. He has over 27 years of real estate investment experience across multiple property types, including entity-level investments in operating companies. Prior to co-founding Broadview, Mr. Grossman was with Berkshire Group for 8 years as a Managing Director in the Venture Investments business. Before joining Berkshire he was a Director at Citi Property Investors for six years, and was responsible for direct real estate investments. He joined Citigroup after seven years with O’Connor Capital Partners, where he served as a Vice President responsible for investment and asset management activities for several of O’Connor’s opportunity funds. Prior to joining O’Connor in 1997, Mr. Grossman spent three years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He received a Master of Business Administration, with distinction, from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Grossman serves on the Boards of Leggat McCall Properties and CSL Berkshire and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

Matt Medearis

Partner

Mr. Medearis is responsible for investment sourcing, underwriting, due diligence, structuring, and asset management. He serves on the Boards of the LCB Senior Living, Strategic Capital Partners, and manufactured housing platforms. Mr. Medearis has over 20 years of experience in institutional real estate and securities across multiple property types and investment structures. Prior to Broadview, he was a Senior Vice President at Berkshire, as part of the Venture Investments group. Prior to Berkshire, Mr. Medearis was a Vice President at Citi Property Investors (CPI) while based in CPI’s New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong offices. Prior to CPI, he was an Acquisitions Associate at Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners, where he participated in numerous equity and mezzanine transactions across a wide range of asset classes. Mr. Medearis began his career as an Investment Banking Analyst in Salomon Smith Barney’s Real Estate & Lodging Group, where he was involved in capital markets and advisory assignments for REITs, hotel operators, and private real estate platforms. Mr. Medearis received his Bachelor of Arts, in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale University and his Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s Executive Cross Continent Program. Mr. Medearis is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.

Justin Brown

Principal

Mr. Brown is responsible for sourcing and structuring real estate venture platforms, execution of property acquisition and development opportunities with platforms partners, and oversight of investment underwriting and due diligence. He serves on the Boards of the Leggat McCall Properties, Clearwater Living, and WCP / Vitality Living platforms. Mr. Brown has over 15 years of experience on the equity and debt side of commercial real estate with strategies spanning the risk/return spectrum. Prior to Broadview, he was Vice President at Berkshire Group, where he was primarily responsible for underwriting, due diligence, and asset management of platform investments and acquisition/development opportunities. Prior to Berkshire, he was Vice President in M&T Bank’s New York City commercial real estate banking group with a focus on financing complex transactions for private equity funds, public REITs, and real estate operators. Mr. Brown was responsible for leading the real estate loan origination process from investment sourcing through closing and monitoring. Prior to M&T, he was an Associate/Consultant at Macgregor Associates in Chicago where he designed institutional real estate investment funds and venture products and actively marketed investments to the world’s largest institutional investors. Mr. Brown holds a Master of Business Administration, with distinction, from Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Northwestern University. Mr. Brown is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

Tara Donnelly

Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Donnelly is responsible for financial reporting for the Broadview Fund as well as operating and compliance functions for the Broadview management company.  Ms. Donnelly has over 15 years of experience in fund accounting and operations with a focus on real estate investment management.  Prior to Broadview, Ms. Donnelly was Vice President of Accounting for Waypoint Residential, LLC, a vertically integrated real estate investment manager targeting the rental housing sector.  Prior to Waypoint, she held finance positions at Workforce Partners, Five Mile Capital Partners, and AIG Global Real Estate.  Ms. Donnelly began her career as an auditor with Ernst & Young LLP in their Assurance and Advisory Services group. Ms. Donnelly received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Economics and her Master of Business Administration from Fairfield University.  She received her Master of Science in Real Estate from New York University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Zach Cohen

Vice President

Mr. Cohen is responsible for supporting underwriting, due diligence and management of property acquisition and development opportunities as well as supporting sourcing efforts for potential new real estate operating platforms. Mr. Cohen has over 8 years of professional experience within real estate, finance, and capital markets. Prior to Broadview, he was an Associate with KeyBanc Capital Markets’ real estate investment banking team, where he worked on complex M&A, real estate joint venture and capital markets transactions for private equity funds, public REITs, and real estate operators. Mr. Cohen was responsible for leading financial analysis and transaction execution efforts, as well as managing and training junior analyst staff. Prior to KeyBanc, he was an Analyst on the Equity Research team at Goldman Sachs where he supported the firm’s coverage of publicly-trade US Oil Services companies. Mr. Cohen began his career at Situs, a real estate services company, underwriting CMBS transactions as a consultant. Mr. Cohen holds a Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Florida.

Arya Reddy

Vice President

Mr. Reddy is responsible for supporting underwriting, due diligence, and management of property acquisition and development opportunities as well as supporting sourcing efforts for potential new real estate operating platforms. Mr. Reddy has over 5 years of professional experience within real estate investments and structured real estate transactions. Prior to Broadview, he was an Associate with Maximus Real Estate Partners on their Investments Team, where he underwrote new acquisitions and asset managed a $3B portfolio of multifamily real estate. Prior to Maximus, he was an Analyst with Savills on their Capital Markets Team, where he assisted senior professionals in the origination and execution of global real estate transactions ranging from investment sales, debt/equity transactions, and corporate advisory assignments. Mr. Reddy holds dual Bachelors of Science degrees in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University.

Daniel Karst

Controller

Mr. Karst is responsible for financial reporting and operations for the Broadview Fund. Mr. Karst has over 8 years of experience in fund accounting and operations with a focus on real estate private equity funds. Prior to Broadview, Mr. Karst was an Assistant Vice President at Blackstone in the real estate group. Prior to Blackstone, he was a senior auditor with EisnerAmper LLP. Mr. Karst is a Certified Public Accountant and received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and his Master of Science in Accounting from The State University of New York at Geneseo.
